Unit Converter

Convert between metric and imperial units for length, weight, temperature, and volume, instantly, right in your browser -- including a dedicated cooking mode that converts teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, milliliters, and fluid ounces to and from grams, kilograms, ounces, and pounds by ingredient. Handy for cooking with a recipe that uses different units than you're used to, following a fitness or medical measurement in another system, checking a travel distance, or double-checking a conversion before a DIY project.

How it works

Length and weight conversions work by multiplying your value by a fixed conversion factor relative to a base unit (meters for length, kilograms for weight) — for example, converting kilometers to miles multiplies by 0.621371, since that's how many miles are in a kilometer. Temperature is different: Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin don't share a common zero point, so converting between them uses dedicated formulas (Celsius to Fahrenheit is ×9/5 then +32) rather than a simple multiplier. All conversion factors used here are the standard internationally-defined values, not rounded approximations.

Worked example

1 mile converts to 1.609 kilometers, and 1 kilometer converts to 0.621 miles. 1 kilogram converts to 2.205 pounds, and 1 pound converts to 453.6 grams. Normal body temperature of 37°C converts to 98.6°F, and water boils at 100°C, which is 212°F.

How accurate are the conversions?
– We use the standard internationally-defined conversion factors (for example, 1 inch is exactly 2.54cm), accurate to 4 decimal places.
Can I convert temperature the same way as length or weight?
– No — temperature scales have different zero points, so conversions use dedicated formulas rather than a simple multiplier, unlike length and weight which just scale directly.
What's a quick way to estimate kilometers to miles in my head?
– Multiplying by 0.6 gets you close for a quick mental estimate; for an exact figure, use the calculator above.
